There’s more to a holiday than may be described in a warehouse full of travel leaflets. We definitely need breaks from work. But there’s even more to be said for a getaway break, leaving all standard routines behind and sampling a different life for a short while.
The advantages of taking a holiday start long before the cases are packed. It is something to anticipate and keeps long zones of routine form appearing unending. They’d only be a non-permanent staging post but looking a head to a vacation gives us the sense that whatever’s taking place currently has a stopping point in sight. We somehow expect to feel differently after and are sometimes proved right. It’s no coincidence that companies often use away-breaks to revive incentive and team relations.
If you are able to turn off and leave everyday patterns behind, when you come back you frequently view old scenarios with fresh eyes and see them in a new light. If nothing else, noticing how your thoughts or mood can change on holiday proves that it is possible to feel differently. Continue reading
